Alexander Calder was an American sculptor, best known for his innovative mobiles and monumental public sculptures. While known mainly for these modes, he also created prints, theater sets, jewelry designs, posters, and paintings. In 1950, Happy as Larry, a play written by Donagh MacDonagh and directed by Burgess Meridith opened in New York at the Coronet Theatre, with sets designed by Alexander Calder.
