The Wiener Werkstätte was a cooperative of artisans in Austria, establish in the early 1900s. It brought together architects, artists, and designers working in many different mediums and is regarded as a pioneer of modern design that influenced later styles like Bauhaus and Art Deco. Early Wiener Werkstätte textiles were reproduced to make holiday greeting postcards. The colorful and vibrant designs were highly recognizable and publishers could have distributed them in large numbers.
