Brighten up your home with Stepping Out– an archival inkjet print from Wisconsin artist Mary Bero and Tandem Press!
Mary Bero documents nuances of patterns and shapes in her works. She creates fantastic environments and primal portraits, depicting observations that have distilled from both her conscious and unconscious thought. By painting on paper, canvas, and other fabrics, and then drawing into the painted surface with thread, she builds up areas of color and texture to form striking compositions.
Mary Bero’s print Stepping Out is based on another work that shares the same title. The piece that initiated this piece was an acrylic painting on canvas into which cotton thread was stitched. To reference Bero’s use of materials and variation in surface, this digital print is collaged together with a multicolored line of stitched thread at the horizon line.
Bero was born in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. She earned a B.S. degree from UW-Stout and studied Art and Textiles at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Her work has been shown in many solo and group exhibitions over a span of thirty-plus years and is found in collections throughout the U.S., German, and the United Kingdom.
