Sir George Hayter was a notable English painter, specializing in portraits and large works involving, in some cases, several hundred portraits. Hayter painted Princess Victoria’s portrait prior to her ascension to the throne and was named Principal Painter in Ordinary and historic painter for the early part of Queen Victoria’s reign. He painted her coronation in 1838, her marriage in 1840, and the christening of the Prince of Wales in 1843.
